As one of our Company Directors, Biddy has a varied role within Butler & Young from the day-to-day running of the business to performing consultancy services for our clients, including Network Rail. With over 40 years’ experience, Biddy is one of our most experienced consultants and customer satisfaction is at the forefront of his professional objectives.
Iain joined the lift industry in 1985 as a draughtsman for Stannah and has worked for a number of lift companies such as Porn & Dunwoody and Guideline Lift Services. Iain became a Company Director in 2001 and spends a large proportion of his time delivering projects on behalf of Network Rail or their many developers.
Carla first joined the company in 2002 Office Administrator and was responsible for providing administrative support to the team, alongside running the accounts and payroll. Carlas job shifted from that of administrative support, to taking on a more industry lead role within the company and she became responsible for implementing H&S policies and internal auditing. Alongside this Carla gained more financial responsibility, eventually earning her the title of Finance Director in 2019.
Phil has been consulting on a wide range of lift services and involved in new developments, local authority schemes, health service and listed building projects. He has experience with lift systems supplied from various sources and able to select solutions that best suit the application. His background is in design and installation and has supplemented these skills with continuing training.
Mel started her career in the lift industry in 2003, joining a global lift consultancy based in Surrey. She progressed through various roles whilst undertaking distance learning courses in Lift Engineering through the University of Northampton and LEIA Partnership. Mel joined Butler & Young in the 2015 and runs our maintenance management department. Mel is also responsible for bringing Liftbox to Butler & Young, our bespoke lift and escalator management system.
Joining the lift industry in 2005, Matt worked as a Contract Manager for an independent lift company for seven years before getting involved with the surveying and sales for new lifts and modernisations in London and the South East. In his role as Senior Engineer, Matt’s knowledge of the lift market, suppliers, current regulations and complexities of day to day lift management, will enable him to offer sound advice to all his clients.
Steve began working in the lift industry in 1979 for Schindler. As an initial role of a Lift Assistant, Steve progressed through the company resulting in becoming a Technician until he left in 1996. Steve has run his own lift company and sub-contracting company, finally joining Butler & Young in 2016.
Having worked within the lift and escalator industry since 1990 for UK based global supply companies, during which time Malcolm gained in depth experience in various roles including design, project management, installation, modernisation, maintenance and repairs. With experience encompassing Quality Engineer, Maintenance and Refurbishment Management and Major Project Management.
